Lubec Arts Alive! 2012 is presenting the fourth year of community arts events in August.
Each year unique projects and events bring community members and artists together in the spirit of creativity, often expressing themes related to Lubec – whether it be a cultural, historic or natural history.

On August 4th and 5th a Create-In-Lubec weekend will be held. Participants are invited to enjoy making art throughout the town. Artists are invited to create locally-themed, plein-air or studio work of all mediums during the weekend or in advance of the event. Art work will be auctioned on Sunday August 5th as a major fundraiser for Lubec Arts Alive!. Artists will receive 70% of the proceeds.  A registration/drop-off tent will be set up at Flat Iron Corner. To pre-register please email lubecartsalive@yahoo.com or if you prefer by phone please leave a message at 733-2068 (email is preferable).  Advance notice of participation is appreciated, as it will help to plan for space and time requirements for the auction. The live downeast style auction will be held at Crow Town Gallery on South Lubec Road.

Other events during the weekend include art-making for children on Saturday August 4th at Flat Iron Corner, which will include print making this year and Art on the Beach, the annual found object art event at Mowry Beach on Sunday August 5th.

Also this year, Lubec Arts Alive! is proud to be working with the Tides Institute and photographer Leslie Bowman who will present a photography workshop August 3 and August 6 titled “Get Great Documentary Shots”. Participants will learn techniques such as timing, contrast framing point of view and other techniques. Application of these skills will occur during the events of the weekend. To register for the free photography workshop email jvalentine@tidesinstitute.org or phone the Tides Institute at 853-4047. The project is made possible with funds from the Artist in Maine Communities grant program through the Maine Arts Commission with matching funds provided by the Tides Institute and Museum of Art.

Formed in 2009, Lubec Arts Alive! hopes to inspire art making in the community and provides opportunities for all to come together for creative purposes. The historical mural created in 2009 is being re-located to the town park on Water Street and the Herring Kinetic Sculpture done in 2011 resides outside near the Landmarks center also on Water Street. Lubec Arts Alive! anticipates future projects for public enjoyment.
